i po news NOVEMBER USA TOUR At the beginning of November, the Israel Philharmonic departed for the USA for its first international tour in three years, and its inaugural tour under Music Director Lahav Shani. Supported by the American Friends of the Israel Philharmonic, the tour started in California with concerts at McCallum Theater in Palm Desert, Segerstrom Concert Hall in Costa Mesa and the Younes and Soraya Nazarian Center for the Performing Arts in Northridge, Los Angeles. After a three-year hiatus from the United States and five years since the Orchestra’s last performance in the Bay Area, the musicians loved performing at both Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco and Bing Concert Hall at Stanford University. Due to Hurricane Nicole, both the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts in West Palm Beach and the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts in Miami have announced that their Israel Philharmonic concerts, which were to take place on November 9 and 10, respectively, were cancelled. Therefore, the Orchestra continued straight to Cleveland, for one concert at Severance Hall, home of the Cleveland Orchestra. These performances featured two different concert programs - the first included Paul BenHaim's First Symphony and Mahler's First, and the second was an all-Prokofiev program, comprising his Symphony no. 1 ("Classical"), Suite from the ballet Romeo and Juliet and the Fifth Symphony. The tour ended in New York with a Gala concert at Carnegie Hall's Stern Auditorium, featuring Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto with Gil Shaham as soloist and Prokofiev's Symphony no. 5.
