939 Channels to the community – A summery of 40 years of activity toward promotion of inclusion, involvement and participation in the community of people with intellectual and other functioning difficulties Emmanuel Schen Abstract This article reviews the writer’s vision and professional concept that guided him during 40 years of experience while working with people with functioning difficulties in the fields of culture, art, leisure, and recreation. This vision is based on a belief in the potential of people with Functioning Difficulties (FD) to express themselves artistically and acquire self-fulfillment at the personal level and inclusion based on the social and rights models at the social level. The article focuses on the activities of Shekel’s “Si’Im” program” in Jerusalem, which was the first municipal program in in Israel which developed and operated cultural and leisure activities for people with FD. The writer initiated, founded “SI’im” and directed it between 1993-2018. The article presents the principles, concept and ideology the program was based on and reviews some Chapter on page 427
