923 Philosophical, theoretical and applied aspects of meaningful learning and students with disabilities: The Cycle of Internalized Learning model and its application in special and regular education Shunit Reiter Abstract This chapter will present the humanistic conception as a philosophy on the basis of which an educational theory can be formulated and applied in teaching and learning. It will present the "Cycle of Internalized Learning" model based on learning principles that conform to the basic assumptions and teaching methods of the constructivist approach. The model was formulated following a study conducted in Israel and is the conceptual and applied basis of a master plan for special education. A number of curricula have been produced under the heading "Towards Maturation", including ‘social education’, ‘citizenship’, ‘career education’ and ‘science teaching’ for special education. Moreover, further curricula were written and applied in different schools, each according to the specific needs. The overarching goal of these programs is to cultivate the learner's autonomous personality based on Chapter on page 601
