916 emerged from disabilities research field, and the Three Component Model of future orientation (Seginer, 2009), which evolved from research in youth without disabilities, are presented. Moreover, in light of their importance, selfdetermination and future orientation are interventional foci of the Israeli national transition program “Creating a Future,” winner of the Zero Project 2020 Education Innovation Award. The program, a collaboration since 2014 between the Ministries of Education and Welfare that is implemented in special education settings for students aged 16-21, is evidence-based and provides focus and structure for the process of preparing students in special education for the work world. The model’s components, and the rationales for their selection, are detailed in the third and final part of the chapter.
